About this spot
Canada's first gold rush country: Clotilde Gilbert pulled a nugget from this stream in 1846, and the Beauce placers went on to yield some of the biggest nuggets in Canadian records (50+ oz). Placer channels here are still being explored commercially today.

Historic occurrence point — much of the Gilbert River valley is private land and/or under active claim, so do not pan without landowner and claim-holder permission. Local operators occasionally run initiation outings. Verify current status before visiting.
